Treat a tike to a toy this holiday season!

Christmas is just around the corner and you know what the means, right?! SANTA'S COMING!

Ok, Santa may not actually be real to you, but for many kids out there...he is. Over the past four years we have been an official off-site location for the U.S. Marine's Toys for Tot's charity drive. The foundation came to life in 1991 to deliver messages of hope to unfortunate youngsters.
Picture
With the Toy's for Tot's goal in mind, we have partnered up with San Antonio Chivers, a local chapter of the much larger organization, Chive Nation, whose mission is to “party with a purpose.” The San Antonio Chivers host fun events that raise funds for non-profits with a goal of impacting their local community through small acts of kindness. How great is that?

We will have a donation station setup at the bar beginning November 3rd. Guests can donate throughout the holiday until December 10th, giving you plenty of time to drop of a toy.
Picture
The last day of donation's, December 10th, we wanted to share the holiday cheer and throw a little party to thank our guests for donating! The San Antonio Chiver's will be joining us, at The Hangar, on Saturday, December 10th from 7p.m. – 10 p.m. At the event, you can contribute a toy or a $5.00 donation. For each donation you make, you'll receive a raffle ticket entering you into a drawing every 30 minutes. Prizes include Spurs tickets, bar swag, gift certificates, and much more!

There will also be two U.S. Marine Corps representatives joining us to collect all the donations, and to personally thank you all for your generosity this holiday season.

How to Cure a Hangover

10/20/2016

Partying on a weeknight always seems like a good idea...until the next day.
Picture
Admit it, adulting is the furthest from impossible when suffering from all those tequila shots you took the night before.

Having doubts about the effects of that tequila? We got you.

Besides the fact that it feels like a high school marching band is doing their half-time performance, where you thought your brain was, here are a few other symptoms your probably experiencing if you're hungover:

  1. Everything hurts & you feel like you're dying.
  2. Your stomach is making noises you've never heard before.
  3. There is not enough coffee in the world to rid your fatigue.
  4. You've never been thirstier.
  5. Everyone is just so loud. Like really, really loud.

We too, experience hangovers every now and again. It's curing them that's the hard part. Of course, there's the reliable coffee and asprin remedy, or the crazy idea of retoxing to detox, but The Hangar says there are other ways.

Here are just a few of our bartender's recommended hangover cures:

“1 Topo Chico, 1 glass of unsweet tea, and 1 bean, cheese & bacon taco.”

“Pozole and Gatorade...but it's gotta be the red one."

Get your boo's & booze on at The Hangar's Halloween Festivities

10/6/2016

This year we've got three opportunities for you to get into the Halloween spirit. Yes, THREE.

Up until last year, our bartenders always carved the pumpkins on display at The Hangar during Halloween. We thought it would be fun to get our patrons involved in this annual tradition we love so much & it turned out to be super FUN! Some guests spent hours creating the perfect jack-o-launterns for our bar & we gave out $50 bucks for the best one.

This year, we just can't say no to doing this again. Come carve & compete for the grand prize of $50 bucks on Tuesday, October 18th from 5pm-7pm.
Then get your boo's & booze on at our 6th Annual Halloween Bash and costume contest on Saturday, October 29th starting at 9pm.

We all know you have been planning your costume since the end of Halloween of last year, and it is finally your year to win some serious cash prizes! The best costume in our competition will win $200 for 1st place, $100 for 2nd place, and $75 for 3rd place.

Even if you don't win you can drown your sorrows with our Halloween themed cocktails all night long...so it's really a win-win, right?!

If you're stuck on ideas for your costume this year, we've come up with a few ideas you might like...
  • Jake from State Farm
  • Bob Ross and a Painting
  • About anyone from Bob's Burgers
  • Mario-Kart Krew
  • Emojis, or.....
Picture
As most of you probably know, we love dogs & are a super dog-friendly bar. So, we can't just leave our pups at home while we have all the fun. This year we will be hosting our first Dog Halloween Costume Contest! This pup-party will be on Sunday, October 30th.

Registration will begin at 4:30pm, and the contest will start promptly at 5:30pm. During the contest, each owner will walk their dog down a "cat walk," ironically, in their Halloween costume. During this time our host will announce your pup, along with a few of he or she's favorite activities, snack, etc.

After all pups have gone, the host will pick the top three dog costumes based on crowd participation. Winning pups will receive an awesome doggy-themed gift basket!

Celebrate Drink Beer Day at The Hangar with a Local Craft Beer

9/15/2016

Need another excuse to drink beer? We do too.

In case you haven't quite satisfied your brewski fix, boozer's alike have created yet another day dedicated to this wonderful Jesus juice! Drink Beer Day is on Wednesday, September 28th.

Here at The Hangar, we're paying respects to the history of beer, and all the wonder it has brought us as a society. After all, it is one of the oldest beverages in human history.

Historians believe that humans have been producing beer, or some form of it, since the Neolithic Era (about 10,200 BC). Can you believe that?
Picture
Over 1,000 years ago, yes ONE THOUSAND YEARS ago, the Weihenstephan brewery began producing beers. We know, it's like one of the Cullens owns it or something. lol Today the Weihenstephan (insert the German we think we know) is still producing at least 14 beers and shipping them all over the world.

We'll be cheers-ing to the history of beer with a local craft brew on September 28th. We hope you'll join us!

How you know you're in love with Oktoberfest!

9/1/2016

Butterflies in your stomach? Sweaty palms? A little nervous?

The dream of reuniting with your one true love, beer, is back! At last with San Antonio celebrating Oktoberfest, anyway. Here are a few signs that you have found your one true Oktoberfest brew:

#1) You catch yourself staring
Studies say that your eyes say a lot about how you feel about someone, or something. When you are in love, your eyes involuntarily fixate themselves on the object of your affections. So, when you're walking down the isle of H-E-B and you catch yourself lingering at the beer section “just to look,” own up...you're in love!
#2) You can't stop thinking about them
In the beginning of your new found beer-lationship you may find yourself not being able to thinking about how that hop tasted or smelt. If your new favorite Oktoberfest brew has become your latest obsession, you're definitely in love.

Picture
#3) You feel high
If you find yourself not being able to stop talking about that one new Oktoberfest beer that danced its way into your life, then you're probably suffering from a hop-diction. A sure sign, that that euphoric feeling you have when you take the first sip, is true love.
#4) You can't keep your hands off each other
Just as you hunt down food when you are hungry, you may find yourself just as eager to make your way to your closest growler station, or bar to grab that one beer who got away. We can not resist the urge to touch our beloved brew.

Picture
Did the majority of these statements pretty much hit home with you?

Have no fear friends, your love for beer and Oktoberfest is perfectly normal! After all, Oktoberfest originally started as a wedding celebration in 1810, when the citizens of Munich were invited to witness and commemorate the marriage of Crown Prince Ludwig to Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen.

The original festival closed out with royal horse races, but over the years the festivities grew to include carousels, swings, food booths, and small beer stands. Beginning in 1896 the beer stands became larger, and beer tents beer were added to host more fair festivities.

Now in 2016, we're ringing in the 183rd Oktoberfest right here in San Antonio, TX at The Hangar! This year, we've got two opportunities for you celebrate.

Our new adult coloring books will make you ooh & ahh!

8/4/2016

Here at The Hangar, we're all about entertaining you, while you drink! That's why, we are now offering complimentary adult coloring books on all of our tables in the bar.

Not only is coloring fun, it's relaxing. Coloring can relieve feelings of stress, depression, and even anxiety. We're totally serious.

In fact, a recent article published by Kelly Fitzpatrick on CNN.com, titled Why adult coloring books are good for you, reports that research performed in 2005 proved anxiety levels dropped when subjects colored mandalas, or round frames with geometric patterns inside. Conversely, simple doodling had no effect in reducing the other subjects' stress levels.

The article even quotes Marygrace Berberian, a certified art therapist and the Clinical Assistant Professor and Program Coordinator for the Graduate Art Therapy Program at NYU, saying that while coloring is not exactly "art therapy," coloring itself "...has therapeutic potential to reduce anxiety, create focus or bring [about] more mindfulness."

Since we've put out the coloring books, we've found that people REALLY love them -- and we REALLY love the creativeness that comes flowing out of our patrons.

So, we've decided that we're going to reward our customers who color with us with the opportunity to win a $25 gift certificate each week.

Wanna enter? All you gotta do is swing by, color a pic of your own & turn it into the bartender for your chance to win.

Level up on Pokemon GO at hit the gym that is The Hangar

7/13/2016

As embarrassed as we are to say this, we've totally hopped on board the Pokemon GO craze. What can we say, there's just something about chasing a cute little Evee or Lickitung around the bar.

Like many prominent public places in San Antonio, The Hangar has been marked by the game as a "gym". A gym in Pokemon GO is a real-world location that a player can travel to, and battle against the gym's leading Pokemon defenders. Doing this earns players a badge, and the opportunity to win stake in the gym for their previously selected trainer team.

If the player successfully defeats a Pokemon at a gym, they have the option to leave one of their own captured Pokemon at the gym to defend it from other attackers, or trainer teams.

We've already has several people come by to battle & catch Pokemon, so we've decided to help players catch even more!

We will be hosting "lure" parties every day during Happy Hour from 5pm-7pm.
Players can swing by during this time, meet other players involved with the game and catch lots of Pokemon. The more people who lure and cluster at a spot on the game to catch Pokemon, the more Pokemon appear for capture.

While you're battling your Pokemon, enjoy a bite to eat and a couple of craft brews. Maybe even a Pokeball shot -- a delicious peppermint shot made with Rumplemintz and Grenadine!

If you're here playing, screen shot the Pokemon you're chasing & share with us on social media. We'd love to see what creatures are hanging around the bar.

Follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram & Snapchat by searching us @TheHangarSA.
